Amazing Grace

The swans have come home to the ranch!

Today we acquired two of the most beautiful additions to the farm yet. A pair of Mute Swans. These beautiful creatures mate for life and reach breeding maturity around age three. These two are only about a year old and have settled in nicely to the pond. They eat aquatic plants, bugs, and other creepy crawlies and love eating the covering of duck weed that one of the ponds has in abundance! They also get a daily helping of high protein layer feed.

The name ‘mute’ derives from it being less vocal than other swan species. Measuring 49 to 67 in. in length, this large swan is wholly white in plumage with an orange beak bordered with black. It is recognisable by its pronounced knob atop the beak, which is larger in males.

We have yet to name these two but we hope that they will be able to breed and thrive on the ranch.
