Where the wild things roam

Where the wild things roam

One of the things that we dreamed of when we were looking for property was the ability to have and hunt wildlife right on our own land. Sure, we have done the hunting lease thing in the past. The truth was that we had a lease for years, and while there were animals there, the 3-hour drive, needing to take the RV, and giving up a full few days to make it happen meant that while we had good intentions and always kept the feeders full, we rarely hunted it. So the idea of a backyard where you could take a hog or a deer meant that you were never far away from a freezer full of meat or a pig on the smoker—both Good things.

DEER AND HOGS IN THE BACKYARD MEAN WE ARE NEVER FAR FROM A FREEZER FULL OF MEAT OR A PIG ON THE GRILL. ALL WITH ANIMALS THAT DON’T REQUIRE FENCING, SHOTS, VET BILLS, OR REGULAR FEEDINGS! SELF RELIANCE… THE WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE!

So when we found the Piney Wood Ranch and walked it for the first time, you can imagine our excitement to see both hog and deer sign. While no one had hunted it in years, the owners did say he thought there were animals, and they occasionally saw things. It was not exactly what we wanted to hear, but we had hope! Fast forward four months, two game cameras, a couple of feeders, and about $100 worth of corn, and we finally have our answers! YES… deer, hogs, raccoons, rabbits, even owls. We have captured images of some remarkable animals, including a 12 point buck, piebald pigmented deer, an owl perched on the feeder even a little fawn nursing. We think it’s downright magical, and we hope that you enjoy sharing it with us!
